Dress down

If you saw my post here last week, you know that I shared a little on how parenthood has changed my style and outlook in how I choose and wear my pieces, especially shoes, for different occasions. I talked a lot about how I still love wearing heels and getting dressed up and since that is hard to do when I am with Raj, I find events to go to so I can have a reason to get dressed up every so often. Obviously taking the time to get a break from motherhood is so vital, but I fully understand that it is not always a realistic option. Life is busy, finding babysitters can be tough, trust me when I say I get it! After I wrote that post, I wanted to be sure to come on here and share an outfit with you for the days when you want to feel ‘put together’ but have the kiddos in tow so need practical shoes, or even if you aren’t a mom but you have a ton of places to go or are just opting for a more casual and comfortable style (you better believe that is me 90% of the time).

You guys know I love a great sneaker, if you follow me on Instagram or know me in real life, you probably see that I wear sneakers over any other shoe almost all the time. The fact that there is this huge sneaker trend is just an added bonus, I have been the sneaker girl since as early as I can remember – I hope you all recall that major skater girl look of the late 90’s, yup I was alllll over that! The great thing about investing in a really great sneaker is that you can virtually wear them with anything these days, no longer are they only for workouts and Disney fanny-pack days. Probably one of my favorite ways to wear a sneaker is with a skirt and/or dress. I love that it makes the dress or skirt, no matter how dressy and girly, look a little less formal; and if you choose a more funky sneaker it adds the perfect amount of ‘edgy’ style. Since I am on the more petite scale for height, my one tip for others who share the same dilemma are to make sure you choose a sneaker that appears a little more ‘slim’ in fit and style. Most workout shoes like Nike and Adidas make great every day shoes as well, but some come with that added sole cushion which makes the shoe a little more wide, I always find that when I wear shoes like this it almost makes me appear more ‘short’ and makes my legs look thicker so my biggest tip when picking a sneaker for every day wear is to choose one that is more sleek like the one I am wearing with this outfit.

Of course, there are so many other option when picking a great every day shoe that you can wear with dresses and skirts, not just sneakers, so I rounded up some of my current favorite styles and shared them below. The key when selecting shoes for this type of look is comfort and ease, something you could wear all day and anywhere but that will still look chic enough to wear with a dress. Flats are always a safe choice, but I currently love a great mule, slide, and especially love any shoe with a funky edge.

I am a believer in letting your shoes do the talking, and if you have caught on you also know I am all about wearing a $10 dress so I can splurge on the shoe!
