Every single day I am thankful for the men and women who serve in our armed forces to keep this beautiful country safe. I am proud to live in a country where I can express myself for who I am, and where one can feel safe doing so. This country has offered so much opportunity to myself, as well as my loved ones, and I would never want to live anywhere else.
This Memorial Day, I would like to say THANK YOU to our soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for that very freedom. I am very proud and honored to be the grand-daughter of not one, but two military veterans. My Grandpa Robert Martinez paid his service in the Army and fought in the Vietnam war. My Papa Mike Ramos was a Marine who fought in the Korean War. I am thankful that they were both fortunate to make it home safely, but mourn with them for their friends and companions who did not.
I am thankful to the military parents and families who I work with every day, and I am so lucky to help care for so many of their children, and am grateful to work in such a large military community. I learn so much from them every day the meaning of courage and sacrifice.
I spent this beautiful day at the beach with family and friends, and just sat alongside the ocean thinking of how grateful I am for the opportunities I have been given. I am thankful to live in this wonderful beach community, I am thankful for my loved ones, and I am thankful that on days like today, I get to share in both of those things together.
I hope everyone had a great weekend, and I hope everyone took a few minutes to remember those that have sacrificed it all for the life we live.
Happy Memorial Day 2014
